Vaughan Kings - Minor Atom Kings in tight race at the top By / Marc Paulichenko Over the holiday season, the Vaughan Kings AAA Minor Atom team will be resting. It will give the team time to relax and regroup for the second half. During that second half, expect the Kings to take a long haul into the playoffs. At press time, the Kings (15-4-2) were in a close, four-way race for first place. Sitting in third place, the Kings are looking to catch the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (16-3-1) by one point and the Mississauga Reps (18-2-0) by four points. “Our league is very tight, it’s great to see a lot of good players and coaches and it seems anyone can beat anyone on any given night,” said Adam Colagiacomo, Kings head coach. “It will make for a great playoffs. As long as we compete and work hard every night success will follow. Our goal is to be in full stride as playoffs are just around the corner.” Colagiacomo feels winning is contagious and it stems from practice where he stresses teamwork. And it’s very hard to beat 15 kids who are that focused on that goal. As for tournaments, the Kings lost in the quarter finals in the Toronto Marlboros’ Early Bird, reached the semi-final in the Mississauga Reps Tournament with a difficult schedule, and lost in the final at the Hamilton Bulldogs Tournament. Around the corner is the Preston Tournament. “I’m very proud of my team and I hope my kids will take everything they’ve learned this season with them for the rest of their playing careers,” concludes Colagiacomo. |
